Call for Submissions: New Works Incubator

White Text reading New Works Incubator 2024 centered on an AI generated image of a hill with tan and brown grass with a blue sky overlooking the ocean. In the center of the image is a donut type shape made of water. Two logos are presented in the bottom left corner of the image for Arts for All and the Immersive Media Design program at the University of Maryland, College Park.

The University of Maryland’s Immersive Media Design (IMD) program in partnership with The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center’s NextNOW Fest is seeking submissions of immersive media art works/installations/performances to present as part of The Clarice’s NextNOW Fest, a celebration of creativity and community taking place in September 2024.

Accepted submissions will take part in IMD’s New Works Incubator (NWI), a nine-week summer development program designed to support the creation of new immersive media projects by students from across the UMD campus.

Submissions will be reviewed by Immersive Media staff on a rolling basis through Sunday, May 12, 2024. Space is limited. Applicants are encouraged to submit their proposals as soon as possible. All applicants will be notified of their acceptance in the New Works Incubator by May 19, 2024.

Dates: NWI will run from the week of June 3rd - August 2nd, 2024.

Workshops: the first two weeks of the incubator will feature half-day mixed-level workshop intensives in a range of immersive media disciplines including augmented and virtual reality, projection mapping, sound design, physical computing, and motion capture.

Design and Build: student creators will create updated designs for their proposed projects after the two weeks of workshops for feedback from NWI staff and mentors. They will then work on building a demo of their experience for the NWI Demo Day at the end of the incubator.

NextNOW
A limited number of selected New Works Incubator projects will be showcased during NextNOW Fest at The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center in early September, 2024. Additional projects will also be showcased as part of NextNow at IMD's Iribe Center lab.
